A gentle, supportive treatment for clients living with cancer and other life-limiting conditions

This one-day in-person masterclass offers qualified therapists a heart-led approach to working with clients whose emotional or physical wellbeing may be vulnerable due to serious illness or ongoing treatment.
This treatment isn’t about fixing, diagnosing, or treating illness. It’s about offering gentle presence, emotional safety, and a moment of peace. Whether holding the hands, cradling the feet, or simply being present, the therapist offers compassionate space — where the client is always seen, heard, and supported.
This advanced masterclass was designed for
Qualified therapists wishing to support clients with or recovering from cancer
Practitioners seeking a trauma-aware, compassion-based approach to therapeutic touch
Therapists looking to enhance their CPD with a nurturing, adaptable treatment style
Before attending the practical workshop, you'll receive access to our comprehensive online learning programme, allowing you to arrive with the background knowledge already in place so that we can focus on developing your practical skills during the two classroom days.

This introductory module gently builds your understanding of cancer using clear, non-clinical language. You’ll explore what cancer is, the difference between benign and malignant tumours, and the main types of cancer you may encounter in practice.

You’ll explore supportive therapeutic practice through a clear, professional lens, helping you understand what is appropriate, when to adapt, and when it’s best to pause treatment altogether.
We’ll guide you through cautions and contraindications, preparation for treatment, and practical decision-making around when to treat and when to adapt, so you feel steady and confident in real-life sessions.

Clear, compassionate communication sits at the heart of safe therapeutic practice, especially when supporting clients affected by cancer. This module focuses on how you communicate, set boundaries and create a supportive environment that protects both your client and yourself.
You’ll explore how to set the scene for sessions, from consultation through to treatment, and understand the power of language, what to say, what to avoid, and how to respond confidently when clients ask difficult or emotionally charged questions.

This module gently guides therapists through supporting clients as care shifts from wellbeing to comfort. You’ll learn how to offer safe, soothing touch, hold space with confidence, communicate compassionately, and work sensitively around families and carers. With a strong focus on professional boundaries and therapist self-care, this session helps you decide whether end-of-life support is right for you — and how to approach it with dignity, presence and calm assurance.

This module also supports you to work ethically and sustainably. You’ll gain clarity around emotional boundaries, supervision and peer support, energetic protection (without anything dramatic or uncomfortable), and how to balance emotionally intense work with lighter sessions. Importantly, it reinforces that you always have choice, including when it’s appropriate to say no, shorten a session, or refer on professionally.

During the workshop, you will learn how to perform each element of the Mian Ai ™ treatment, including:
Choosing the crystals
Grounding meditation
Lower arm & hand soothing
Introduction to the feet
Holding & linking
Chakra winding
Toe work
Lymphatic flush
Smoothing the lower legs

One of the most valuable parts of the Mian Ai Masterclass is the opportunity to work with our Friends of Phoenix.
These wonderful volunteers are living with, or recovering from, cancer or another life-limiting condition and generously give their time to help therapists develop the confidence, sensitivity and adaptability that simply cannot be learned from practising solely on fellow students.
Working with real clients creates a learning experience that is authentic, meaningful and unforgettable.

I love to teach! To impart my skills and knowledge into creating well-rounded, professional therapists gives me a buzz. I believe that when we learn as adults we bring a wealth of life-skills to the learning journey and I use this experience and build on it. My style of teaching is to make students think…. and find their own answer. I facilitate - guiding students to come to their own conclusions to empower their learning. My lessons are fun and very interactive. Students are encouraged to contribute their own thoughts and ideas as, in that way, we can learn from each other. When learning a new skill, there are guidelines but I encourage and positively applaud students having a personal take on a skill, finding their own way of doing something that will make them stand out. I believe at the end of their journey with me students will be able to go out into the world as well-rounded, skilled, professional therapists and establish a well-being business.
